Numbered single-parcel wines from two family vineyards above Villafranca, restarted in 2015 with 900 bottles of Garnacha Tintorera.

Bodega Encima Wines ★ 4.2

DO BierzoMencía, GodelloORGANIC CERTIFIEDPonferrada

A small Molinaseca cellar bottling Vino de Villa Ponferrada from unirrigated eighty-year-old parcels, sold in the region's organic two-bottle case.

Abad Dom Bueno Godello ★ 4.2

DO BierzoGodelloEUR 9-12 retail

Bodega del Abad's entry Godello from Carracedelo, made from the estate's own 30 hectares at Señorío de Valcarce next to the Camino.

Tip: The EUR 15 winery visit includes a guided tasting and a bodega glass, which makes buying at the cellar door better value than buying blind.

Sonrisa de Tares ★ 4.2

DO BierzoGodelloEUR 9-13 retail

The Bierzo Alto house's entry Godello, from the cooler eastern end of the denomination around San Román de Bembibre.

Tip: Set it against a valley-floor Godello from Pieros or Carracedelo to see what altitude does to the variety inside one DO.

Capricho Godello ★ 4.2

DO BierzoGodelloEUR 11-15 retail

Gancedo's Godello comes mostly from Lamas de Picón at Canedo, above 650 metres on sandy loam beside an old Roman castro.

Tip: Gancedo also bottles a barrel-aged Godello called Herencia del Capricho, worth tasting alongside this one at the cellar.

Armas de Guerra Godello ★ 4.0

DO BierzoGodelloEUR 7-10 retail

The Cacabelos co-operative's Godello, the cheapest honest route into the variety and a fixture of the co-operative's own town shop.

Tip: The same shop carries the Guerra orujo and vermouths, so it is the single stop for the co-operative's whole range.
