Pale salmon pink
Still Rose · DO Bierzo · Bierzo
A field-blend rosado of Mencía, Bastardo and old Godello from El Chuqueiro, run down by gravity and aged twelve months in French oak.
No critic score is published for this bottle that we can cite with a reviewer, a vintage and a review year, so none is shown. The rating in the header is our own.
El Chuqueiro sits in the highest part of Valtuille, where clay soils hold the moisture the old vines need. Mencía, Bastardo and old Godello are pressed together and the must runs down by gravity to ferment on indigenous yeasts in 500 litre French oak barrels, where the wine then rests twelve months.
Mencía with Bastardo and old Godello, pressed together as the varieties grow in the El Chuqueiro site.
Twelve months in the same 500 litre French oak barrels where it ferments, which is unusually long for a Spanish rosado.
Drink within one to six years of the vintage; the barrel time gives it more staying power than most rosés.
Grilled octopus, rice with rabbit, or Serrano ham croquetas.
