The name comes from a fountain beside the vineyard that once watered livestock in the neighbouring meadows, a Galician phrase worn into the Bierzo speech that sits between Castilian and Galician. The parcel lies in the Las Villegas paraje on clay and rolled stone beside the El Friscal meadows, worked with biodynamic activity and regulated yields on centenarian vines.
Cherry red with garnet rims. A Mencía of medium to high intensity showing candied forest fruits, giving a powerful, aromatic wine with vanilla tones. It is complex, with sweet fruit flavours, powerful structure, a long run across the palate and dry but ripe tannins.
From a single parcel in the Las Villegas paraje at Valtuille de Abajo, on clay and rolled stone beside the El Friscal meadows, from centenarian vines.
Drink between three and fourteen years from vintage.
Slow-roast pork belly, beef ragu with pappardelle, or a matured cheese board.
