Pago de Valdoneje is the range that carries the Valtuille de Abajo name for Vinos Valtuille. The Mencía comes from eighty-five year old vines on clay with sand and ferruginous subsoil, hand picked into 15 kg crates and passed over a sorting table before a temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel.
Intense red with violet touches. The nose is very fresh, with red fruits such as blackberries and wild berries, the earthy character of the Bierzo, toasted notes of smoke and liquorice, and balsamic touches led by mint. The palate is well structured with considerable depth.
It sees no barrel. Fermentation runs in stainless steel with temperatures held below 28 degrees Celsius.
Drink within one to six years of the vintage.
Grilled morcilla, lamb kebabs with mint, or roast red peppers with anchovy.
