Varietal Touriga Nacional in large-format French oak: violets and pine needles over red fruit, with chocolate from the wood and firm tannin under it.
Dark and brilliant, with a varietal bouquet of violets, pine needles and red fruits, and oak and chocolate notes balanced against the fruit. The palate is generous and concentrated with the firm tannins of youth.
The estate advises at least two to three years in bottle, says it will be more complex at ten and better still at twenty. Serve at 16C.
Twelve months in 500 litre French oak, a larger format than the estate's 225 litre barrels, which is why the wood reads as a frame rather than a flavour.
