Terrasses du Larzac estate at Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquiere acquired by Gerard Bertrand in 2011, at 300 metres altitude on the volcanic terraces of the Larzac, biodynamically cultivated since 2012 with Demeter certification on the wines from the 2015 vintage.

Mas de Daumas Gassac ★ 4.8

Aniane estate founded in 1971 by Aime and Veronique Guibert on the Gassac valley's glacial-powder geology, classified IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert and IGP Herault rather than AOC across 44 hectares of vines amid roughly 4,000 hectares of surrounding Mediterranean forest. Aime Guibert died in 2016 and the estate is now run by sons Samuel, Gael, Roman and Basile Guibert, with Samuel as head winemaker.

Tip: Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge is a Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend that routinely ages 25 to 40 years; the white (Viognier-Chardonnay-Petit Manseng) is a small-allocation cellar candidate.

Domaine de Cigalus is one of Gerard Bertrand's flagship biodynamic estates at Bizanet near Narbonne (Demeter certified since 2009). The Cigalus blanc is a Chardonnay-Sauvignon Blanc-Viognier blend at the upper end of the budget range (~EUR22), and is the white-wine showcase of Bertrand's biodynamic portfolio. The estate's red Cigalus is similarly priced.

Tip: Cigalus visits combine a biodynamic farm tour with a producer-led tasting at the Chateau l'Hospitalet hotel and restaurant complex. The white sits at the budget ceiling; pair with grilled sea bass or langoustines.

Naveran ★ 4.4

Family-owned estate founded in 1984 by Michel Gilleron Parellada de Naveran at the Can Parellada farmhouse in Torrelavit. 110 hectares of terraces and woodlands in Alt Penedes producing 375,000 bottles of Cava and 250,000 bottles of still wine per year. Sustainable practices with no herbicides or pesticides; organic fertilisers only.

E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone blanc ★ 4.2

Guigal's Cotes du Rhone blanc is Viognier-dominant, giving it apricot-blossom and stone-fruit aromatics at a fraction of the cost of Condrieu. Drink young for the freshest Viognier expression.

Tip: At under EUR15 this is one of the best-value Viognier-driven white wines in France. Serve chilled with a Provencal fish dish.

Founded in 1997 by Count Paolo Marzotto, Baglio di Pianetto sits at 900 metres near Santa Cristina Gela, 25 kilometres from Palermo. The estate blends Sicilian and French winemaking traditions across 106 hectares, with an elegant agrirelais for overnight stays.
