What it pairs with
-
Halászlé (spicy Hungarian fish soup)
The wine's crisp acidity refreshes the palate between sips of the paprika-heavy soup. -
Smoked trout pâté
High-acid Furmint cuts through the fat in smoked fish preparations. -
Sauerkraut dishes
The wine's acidity harmonises with the fermented tartness of sauerkraut.
History
Harsányi Pince in Sátoraljaújhely at the northern tip of the appellation bordering Slovakia. The Zemplén foothills shelter south-facing terraces that allow Furmint to ripen despite the northerly position; wines show a more austerely mineral character than those from the warmer central Mád basin.
- 2012 — Harsányi Pince established estate bottling of dry Furmint
