What it pairs with

  • Roquefort with honey and walnuts
Classic pairing; the wine's sweetness and acidity balance the salt and fat of blue cheese.
  • Apple strudel
The wine's stone-fruit character and sweetness harmonise with the pastry filling.
  • Foie gras terrine
Rich liver fat is balanced by the Aszú's acidity and sweet fruit.

History

Aszú production in Sátoraljaújhely requires north-tilted south-facing terraces; botrytis develops reliably in the autumn mists off the Ronyva stream. The post-2013 PDO reform restricted Aszú to 5 and 6 Puttonyos designations.

  1. 2016 — First Harsányi Pince 5 Puttonyos Aszú certified post-2013 PDO reform
