Aroma: fresh raspberry, rose hip, white pepper, chalk mineral

Palate: fresh red fruit, cranberry, earthy, delicate tannin

Occhipinti's varietal Frappato is perhaps the finest expression of the variety: achingly delicate, chalk-mineral, fresh raspberry and rose-hip with extraordinary tension for its light weight.

What it pairs with

  • Chilled seafood platter
Serve slightly cool; the wine's lightness and acidity work across clams, prawns and squid.
  • Tuna carpaccio with capers
Frappato's delicate red fruit and mineral acidity complement raw tuna.
  • Soft cheese with honey
Low tannin and pure fruit make this a gentle pairing with fresh or soft ripened cheeses.

History

Occhipinti has produced varietal Frappato since her first vintage in 2004, establishing it alongside the SP68 blend as the dual calling-card of the estate. The single-varietal bottling shows the unique qualities of the grape without the grounding of Nero d'Avola.
