In the glass
Aroma: dark cherry, dried fig, spice, iron filings
Palate: black fruit, licorice, firm tannin, warm mineral
Siccagno is the Sicilian dry-farming term for unirrigated cultivation; Occhipinti's varietal Nero d'Avola is richly dark-fruited with a characteristic iron-mineral finish from Vittoria's ferrous soils.
What it pairs with
-
Slow-braised goat with olives
Full body and firm tannins stand up to rich goat meat; herby-mineral wine character mirrors the olive notes. -
Caponata on bruschetta
The wine's dark fruit and spice complement the sweet-sour Sicilian aubergine relish. -
Grilled lamb ribs
Firm tannins cut through lamb fat with warm mineral notes complementing the char.
History
Siccagno takes its name from the traditional Sicilian dry-farming practice without irrigation. Occhipinti produces this wine from Nero d'Avola vines farmed without irrigation in the Vittoria zone, producing concentrated low-yield fruit that ages beautifully.
