What it pairs with

  • Beef rib steak
The estate names a good costata, matched to the wine's structure.
  • Leg of lamb with mountain herbs
Named by the producer; the balsamic register echoes the herbs.
  • Aged sheep's cheese
Firm but evolved tannins suit a hard mature cheese.

Frequently asked about Cocciapazza Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva

Where does the name Cocciapazza come from?

It is the old name of the area where the estate's vineyards are planted, chosen because the wine is meant to be that zone's fullest expression.

What does it taste like?

Deep dense ruby with violet tints when young, broad ripe Montepulciano red fruit balanced by black pepper and liquorice, with balsamic, chocolate and tobacco notes, firm but evolved tannins and the acidity typical of the area.

How is it selected?

Usually three staggered picks per vintage, taken only from the parts of the 1972 pergola vineyard with the best soil and climate, cropped at 50 hectolitres per hectare and aged 20 months in French barrique.
