Aroma: raspberry, ripe strawberry, pomegranate, white flowers

Palate: red berry, salinity

Montepulciano pressed by foot in wooden vats and fermented off the skins in glass-lined concrete. WineMag found raspberry, jammy ripe strawberry and pomegranate over a fine floral layer, and a rosato made for the table rather than the aperitivo.

What it pairs with

  • Pallotte cacio e ove
The Abruzzese cheese-and-egg dumplings in tomato sauce need a rosato with acidity and body.
  • Roast chicken with rosemary
WineMag calls it a strongly gastronomic wine, and it has weight enough for white meat.
  • Grilled octopus
Salinity and red-berry fruit hold up to char without clashing.

Frequently asked about Emidio Pepe Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo

What does Emidio Pepe Cerasuolo taste like?

WineMag described the 2016 as one of the finest pink expressions of the type, with raspberry and ripe strawberry close to preserve, joined by pomegranate and a fine floral layer.

How is it made?

The grapes are still trodden by foot in wooden vats, then vinified off the skins in glass-lined concrete. Bottling and ageing happen without any filtration.

Is Cerasuolo a light red?

No. Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is its own rosato DOC, separate from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo since 2010, and Pepe's version is a food wine rather than a light red.
