Bodega Cobertizo ★ 4.1

A Valtuille de Abajo family cellar rebuilt in 1994 inside its own Viña Ramiro, an early adopter of trellised Mencía and of controlled Ganimede fermentation.

Tip: Valtuille de Abajo packs a dozen bodega doors into two streets. Cobertizo sits out among the vines rather than in the village core.

The López and Folgueral families work their Valtuille de Abajo vineyards, mostly over 80 years old, in what they describe as an artisanal way with minimal intervention, cutting additives as far as they can so that each plot reads as itself. They are also regrafting recovered centenarian vineyards at Villalibre de la Jurisdicción to Godello, Merenzao and Pan y Carne.

Tip: The Villalibre de la Jurisdicción parcels are a recovery project on abandoned vines, and they are where the Merenzao and Pan y Carne go.
