What it pairs with
-
Tafelspitz with horseradish and apple sauce
The wine's pepper-and-apple notes are a natural match for the classic Austrian boiled beef dish. -
Grilled Danube catfish
Medium weight and mineral freshness complement the rich river fish. -
White asparagus with hollandaise
Classic Austrian pairing; the wine's herbal notes lift the hollandaise.
History
The Tausendeimerberg (Thousand-Bucket Hill) site above Spitz is one of the most evocatively named sites in the Wachau, a reference to the historically large harvests from its terraces. Lagler has farmed the site for generations; the Grüner Veltliner Smaragd first bottled separately in 1992.
