History
The Achleiten Ried in Weissenkirchen is one of the Wachau's most-celebrated crus, with soil composed of gneiss and amphibolite that produces distinctively spicy, concentrated Grüner Veltliner. Domäne Wachau as a cooperative controls significant Achleiten parcels and has bottled this cuvée since the cooperative's reorganisation after World War II.
- 1938 — Winzergenossenschaft Wachau founded; Achleiten parcels among the first sites cultivated
- 2008 — Cooperative rebranded as Domäne Wachau; Achleiten Smaragd retains flagship status
