What it pairs with

  • Grilled veal chop with herb butter
Pepper spice and full body match the richness of veal with herb butter.
  • Roasted pike-perch
A Danube fish classic: the wine's mineral breadth complements freshwater fish.
  • Asparagus with Hollandaise
Classic Wachau pairing: pepper and acidity balance the egg-butter sauce.

History

The Achleiten Ried in Weissenkirchen is one of the Wachau's most-celebrated crus, with soil composed of gneiss and amphibolite that produces distinctively spicy, concentrated Grüner Veltliner. Domäne Wachau as a cooperative controls significant Achleiten parcels and has bottled this cuvée since the cooperative's reorganisation after World War II.

  1. 1938 — Winzergenossenschaft Wachau founded; Achleiten parcels among the first sites cultivated
  2. 2008 — Cooperative rebranded as Domäne Wachau; Achleiten Smaragd retains flagship status
