In the glass
Aroma: dried black cherry, iron, tobacco leaf, clay mineral
Palate: concentrated dark fruit, firm chalky tannin, long mineral finish
Vrucara is from Feudo Montoni's oldest pre-phylloxera Nero d'Avola vines in the high plateau of central Sicily: austere, iron-mineral, demanding years in bottle to reveal its full complexity.
What it pairs with
-
Slow-braised lamb neck
High tannin and acidity require the richness and time of a long braise to find harmony. -
Aged Sicilian salumi
Iron mineral and tobacco notes match the cured character of aged pork charcuterie. -
Grilled T-bone steak
Only the most structured red meats can stand up to Vrucara's density and tannin.
History
Fabio Sireci's Feudo Montoni sits in the hills of Cammarata in the Agrigento province at 700 metres. The Vrucara comes from old pre-phylloxera Nero d'Avola vines using the traditional alberello training. It is considered one of Sicily's most demanding and distinctive terroir expressions of Nero d'Avola.
- 1995 — First commercial vintage of Vrucara from pre-phylloxera vines
