Aroma: ripe plum, chocolate, spice, cedar

Palate: dark fruit, smooth tannin, cedar, warm finish

Ramione blends the dark fruit warmth of Nero d'Avola with the softening effect of Merlot at 900 metres above sea level: the result is a polished, smooth Sicilian blend with surprising freshness from altitude.

What it pairs with

  • Braised short ribs
Smooth tannin and dark fruit match the richness of slow-braised bone-in beef.
  • Wild mushroom tagliatelle
Cedar and dark fruit notes complement earthy mushroom pasta.
  • Aged pecorino with honey
Smooth warmth and plum notes pair nicely with sweet-salty aged sheep's milk cheese.

History

Count Paolo Marzotto founded Baglio di Pianetto in 1997 and created the Ramione as his estate's prestige red blend, growing Nero d'Avola and Merlot at the unusually high altitude of 900 metres near Santa Cristina Gela.
