Cru Classe red from Rimauresq under Scottish ownership. Mourvedre and Syrah-led with garrigue, graphite and cedar depth on a firm-tannin frame.

What it pairs with

  • Magret de canard with cherries
Rimauresq's black-plum and iron register echo duck and cherry sauce; tannins handle the fat.
  • Lamb shanks braised in red wine
Slow-cooked lamb finds a peer in the wine's tannin and savoury depth.
  • Aged Tomme
Hard cow's-milk salt aligns with the wine's leather and dark-fruit register.
  • Beef daube provencale
Slow-braised beef in red wine and orange peel echo the wine's garrigue and tobacco notes.

History

Rimauresq's modern Cru Classe red has been bottled in essentially its current form since the early 1990s after the Wemyss family acquisition. The Mourvedre share gives the cuvee structure beyond typical Cotes de Provence red.

  1. 1988 — Wemyss family acquires Domaine de Rimauresq
  2. 1990 — Modern Cru Classe Rouge vinification established
