Intense garnet, clean and complex in forest fruits and sugared almond, cherries and sour cherries in spirit, spice, vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and liquorice, with violet, iris and wild flowers when young, and only 50 grams per litre of sugar so it stays austere.
The estate explains that Amandorlato was made for drinkers who found traditional Recioto too sweet: fermentation is prolonged until sugar halves from 120 to 150 grams per litre down to 50 to 60, producing a wine that is more alcoholic and less sweet. The name comes from that austerity, or from a scent of almond.
Corteforte explains that many consider it the father of Amarone. It was appreciated by drinkers who found the traditional Recioto too sweet, so fermentation was prolonged until the sugar halved from 120 to 150 grams per litre down to 50 to 60, giving a more alcoholic and less sweet wine. The name comes from that austerity or, in older accounts, from its almond scent.
The estate reports an intense garnet colour and clean, complex scents of forest fruits and sugared almond, cherries and sour cherries in spirit, spice, vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and liquorice, with violet, iris and wild flowers emerging in its youth.
Ten to fifteen years and beyond from the vintage, according to the estate. Serve at room temperature or slightly cool in large crystal glasses.
