What it pairs with

  • Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad
The quintessential Wachau pairing for a white-pepper Grüner Veltliner.
  • Grilled sea bass with vegetables
The wine's pepper and citrus notes mirror the grilled fish and vegetable preparation.
  • Asparagus soup
Classic spring vegetable pairing for a structured Grüner Veltliner.

History

The Hochriesling Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is Schmelz's flagship Grüner bottling, produced from higher-elevation parcels in the Joching area. The elevated position provides good temperature variation between day and night, preserving the pepper-spice character.

  1. 1992 — Hochriesling Grüner Veltliner Smaragd introduced as the estate's main Grüner cuvée
