Palate: dark fruit, licorice, full body, warm finish

Maggio Vini's Nero d'Avola from the ultra-sun-drenched Maccari-Noto area offers one of the island's richest and warmest expressions of the variety: full-bodied, carob-dark-fruited with licorice depth.

What it pairs with

  • Barbecued pork spare ribs
The warmth and full body of Noto Nero d'Avola are made for slow-cooked, richly caramelised pork.
  • Braised oxtail
Dense dark fruit and medium tannin support gelatinous braised cuts.
  • Dark chocolate brownies
Carob and dark-chocolate flavour in the wine echoes sweet dark chocolate.

History

Maggio Vini produce Noto DOC Nero d'Avola from the Maccari contrada near Syracuse, one of the hottest wine zones in Italy. The estate focus on native Sicilian grapes in one of the variety's heartland areas.
