Gorgo's Garda DOC Merlot provides a red wine counterpart to the estate's primary Bianco di Custoza focus. Lake Garda's moderating effect on the climate produces a well-rounded Merlot with soft tannins and ripe fruit.

What it pairs with

  • Grilled ribeye tagliata with rocket
Medium-bodied Merlot and sliced steak is a simple, satisfying Garda pairing.
  • Pasta al ragu di carne
Soft Merlot tannins and ripe fruit complement a simple meat ragu.

History

Gorgo expanded from its white wine focus in the late 1980s and 1990s to produce Garda DOC reds. The Garda DOC appellation covers both white and red wines from the Lake Garda basin. Merlot was chosen for its compatibility with the morainic soils and the temperate lake climate.
