What it pairs with

  • Freshwater crayfish bisque
The wine's racy acidity and mineral depth are a natural partner to delicate crustacean sweetness.
  • Smoked trout
Smokiness in the fish finds a mineral echo in the Riesling; the acidity refreshes between bites.
  • Sushi and sashimi
High acidity and salinity make a compelling match for raw fish.

History

The Kellerberg Riesling from F.X. Pichler is produced from the same Ried as the Grüner Veltliner but expresses the site's gneiss terroir through a racy, mineral profile, with tension and longevity sustained by the primary-rock soils.

  1. 1980 — First single-Ried Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd bottled separately from the estate's general Riesling
  2. 2000 — Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd gains international distribution through specialist Wachau importers in the US and UK
