What it pairs with
-
Freshwater crayfish bisque
The wine's racy acidity and mineral depth are a natural partner to delicate crustacean sweetness. -
Smoked trout
Smokiness in the fish finds a mineral echo in the Riesling; the acidity refreshes between bites. -
Sushi and sashimi
High acidity and salinity make a compelling match for raw fish.
History
The Kellerberg Riesling from F.X. Pichler is produced from the same Ried as the Grüner Veltliner but expresses the site's gneiss terroir through a racy, mineral profile, with tension and longevity sustained by the primary-rock soils.
- 1980 — First single-Ried Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd bottled separately from the estate's general Riesling
- 2000 — Kellerberg Riesling Smaragd gains international distribution through specialist Wachau importers in the US and UK
