What it pairs with

  • River fish with wild herbs
The wine's wild-herb undertone resonates with foraged-herb preparations.
  • Organic smoked salmon
Mineral and herbal Riesling with a quality natural-farming fish.
  • Biodynamic hard cheese
Natural-farming wines often pair well with other naturally-produced dairy products.

History

The Bioweingut Schmidl Riesling Smaragd is the estate's most ambitious wine, produced from Unterloiben parcels adjacent to larger Loiben estates. The biodynamic-practicing approach adds a distinctive wild, earthy dimension to the mineral Riesling character of the site.

  1. 1980 — First Riesling Smaragd from Bioweingut Schmidl from Unterloiben primary-rock parcels
