Baglio di Pianetto's high-altitude Syrah shows how the variety performs at 900 metres: the elevation preserves aromatic freshness and pepper-spice that is often lost at lower-altitude Sicilian warmth.

What it pairs with

  • Lamb ribs with black olives
Pepper-spice and dark fruit are the definitive Syrah pairing for herb-seasoned lamb.
  • Grilled wild boar sausage
Full body and peppery character stand up to gamey wild boar sausage.
  • Tapenade bruschetta
Olive notes in the wine mirror the Provencal character of black olive tapenade.

History

Baglio di Pianetto planted Syrah at their Pianetto estate and named the wine Viafrancia (Via Francia being the estate's street address), emphasising the French variety grown in a Sicilian context. High altitude preserves the variety's northern-Rhone pepper character.
