Aroma: yellow stone fruit, lime zest, wet limestone, herbal lift

Palate: dense citrus, saline minerality, white pepper, long chalky finish

A deep limestone-driven Riesling from the Westhofen Morstein, dense, mineral and built for the cellar.

What it pairs with

  • Pan-seared Atlantic turbot
Saline minerality matches the firm white fish; racy acidity cuts through brown butter.
  • Roasted Bresse poultry
Yellow stone fruit and herbal lift balance the rich poultry skin.
  • Aged Comte
Chalky finish and saline grip play against the nutty alpine cheese.
  • Asparagus with hollandaise
Spring weisswein convention; lime zest meets the bittersweet asparagus.

Frequently asked about Morstein Riesling Grosses Gewaechs

What does Wittmann Morstein Riesling GG taste like?

Yellow stone fruit, lime zest, wet limestone and a herbal lift on the nose; dense citrus, saline minerality, white pepper and a long chalky finish on the palate. Full-bodied with racy acidity.

When should I drink Wittmann Morstein Riesling GG?

Drink between 5 and 25 years from vintage. Young bottles benefit from 30-60 minutes of decanting; mature wines from 2010 and earlier are at peak now and need careful handling.

What food pairs with Wittmann Morstein Riesling GG?

Pan-seared turbot is the canonical pairing; roasted Bresse poultry and aged Comte are equally strong matches. The wine's saline grip suits white fish and rich poultry.

Is Wittmann Morstein Riesling GG vegan?

Yes. Weingut Wittmann uses no animal-derived fining agents, and the estate is biodynamically farmed in respekt-BIODYN since 2004.

Where is Wittmann Morstein made?

The Morstein single-vineyard sits at the southern edge of Westhofen in the Wonnegau, on deep Kalkstein limestone. Wittmann farms its parcel biodynamically and the GG is fermented in traditional 1200L oak Stueckfass.
