Single-variety Alvarinho from Casa de Cello's Quinta de Sanjoanne estate, showing the noble grape from a southern Vinho Verde site.

What it pairs with

  • Atlantic shellfish platter
Saline citrus drive and stone fruit pair fresh crab and prawn; mineral close picks up the iodine.
  • Polvo a feira
Pimenton-dusted octopus meets the wine's wet-stone register; high acidity cuts the olive oil.
  • Grilled prawns with garlic
Lime and white-peach aromatics partner sweet shellfish; high-acid drive cuts the butter.
  • Aperitif with almonds
White-flower aromatics make it a serious aperitif Alvarinho; the mineral close partners roasted nuts.

Quinta de Sanjoanne is Casa de Cello's home Vinho Verde estate at Santa Cruz do Douro. The single-variety Alvarinho was added to the portfolio in the late 2000s as the family expanded into noble-grape bottlings beyond the Loureiro-Avesso blend.
