In the glass
Aroma: dark cherry, incense, volcanic mineral, dried herbs
Palate: cherry-plum, iron, charcoal, firm tannin
Monte Gorna is Nicosia's prestige Etna Rosso from a single contrada on the south-east slope: the estate's most structured and mineral wine, representing the full potential of the Trecastagni zone.
What it pairs with
-
Slow-roasted leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary
Firm tannins and mineral depth are perfectly matched with slow-roasted lamb. -
Wild mushroom risotto with Pecorino
Volcanic earthiness and firm structure pair with the earthy umami of wild mushroom. -
Grilled aged Caciocavallo
The wine's iron-mineral character bridges the smoky, aged character of grilled Caciocavallo.
History
Monte Gorna takes its name from a Trecastagni contrada on the south-east slope of Etna, where Nicosia identified old Nerello Mascalese vines producing exceptional mineral complexity. Introduced in 2015 as the prestige tier of the Etna range, it aims to demonstrate the south-east slope's potential for age-worthy Etna Rosso.
