Indigenous Schioppettino with the variety's signature white-and-black-pepper aromatics. La Tunella's Schioppettino is one of the modern references for the revived Friulian indigenous red.

What it pairs with

  • Wild boar pappardelle
Gamey ragù meets the wine's black pepper and dried herbs; fine grainy tannin handles the boar fat.
  • Brasato al Refosco
Friulian beef braise finds a peer in the wine's pepper and tannin grip.
  • Roast venison with juniper
Black pepper and dried herbs echo the juniper; medium body holds the gamey meat.

History

Schioppettino is the indigenous Friulian red grape historically grown around Prepotto and Cialla. The grape almost died out in the 1970s but was revived from the 1980s onwards. La Tunella was one of the early Colli Orientali producers to back the revival.
