In the glass
Aroma: ripe cherry, dark berries
Palate: ripe cherry, dark fruit
The monks' premium dry qvevri red, made from Saperavi grown in the vineyards around Alaverdi Monastery. Deep ruby, velvety on the nose, with expressed tannin, balanced acidity and a long finish.
What it pairs with
-
Chakapuli of lamb
At 15.5 percent with firm tannin this needs a rich braise rather than a light dish. -
Mtsvadi of beef
Kakhetian grilled beef is the meal the monastery cellar's reds were made alongside. -
Aged guda cheese
A hard sheep's cheese gives the tannin something to work against.
