Smaragd Grüner Veltliner from Mathias Hirtzberger's independent Wösendorf estate: white pepper, citrus blossom and pear with firm mineral acidity.

What it pairs with

  • Schnitzel with potato salad
Classic Wachau pairing: Grüner's pepper spice and acidity cut through the fried dish.
  • Grilled white fish
Mineral and citrus notes complement grilled white fish.
  • Ricotta and herb ravioli
Herbal and floral notes in the wine work well with fresh herb-filled pasta.

History

Mathias Hirtzberger established his independent winery in 2014, separate from the Franz Hirtzberger family estate. He works 4 hectares in Wösendorf on traditional terraced sites, producing a small range of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.

  1. 2014 — Mathias Hirtzberger founds independent Weinhofmeisterei winery in Wösendorf
  2. 2016 — First vintage of the flagship Grüner Veltliner Smaragd released under the Weinhofmeisterei label
