Frequently asked about Plumpton Estate Brut Reserve
Why does Plumpton Brut Reserve use unusual grapes?
Plumpton is a teaching estate, and the Brut Reserve blend of Riesling, Seyval Blanc, Pinot Blanc and Regner is an alternative to the classic Champagne trio that demonstrates what other varieties can do in the English climate.
How long is Plumpton Brut Reserve aged?
Five years on lees after the base wine is fermented in tank and then again in bottle, which the college says gives the wine complex aromas.
Is Riesling grown in Sussex?
Rarely, but Plumpton grows it at its teaching vineyards under the Downs near Lewes and uses it as the lead variety in this blend.
