From the Zanna vineyard at Controguerra, the estate's first plot, at 280 metres on marly soil with clay. After 24 months in Slavonian oak the wine is ruby, turning garnet with years, with blackberry and wilted flowers and a velvety, soft-tannined palate.

What it pairs with

  • Roast lamb
The soft-tannin frame and long cask ageing match roast lamb.
  • Timballo teramano
The local layered timbale is the classic Colline Teramane table partner.
  • Aged pecorino
Dried-flower and blackberry tones carry a hard sheep's cheese.

Frequently asked about Zanna Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva

Where does the name Zanna come from?

The area around the farmhouse acquired by founder Nicola Illuminati at Controguerra was already known as Zanna, a name the family links to the wolves that once roamed there.

What does Zanna taste like?

Ruby red turning garnet over the years, with blackberry and wilted flowers fading into something ethereal, and a velvety palate carried by soft tannins.

How is it aged?

Fermentation is in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by 24 months in Slavonian oak casks. Yields are 70 to 80 quintals per hectare on the 5.5 hectare plot.
