Mestres family documented in Sant Sadurni since 1312 as grape and wine merchants; sparkling production from 1928 under Josep Mestres Manobens. In 1945 the family launched Visol, the first Brut Nature (zero dosage) Cava, registered with the Spanish Patent Office in 1948. The Mestres labels carried the word Cava from 1960, predating the DO. 90 hectares of estate-owned vineyards producing approximately 180,000 bottles per year.
