Schloss Johannisberg records 1775 as the documented Spaetlese vintage that gave the category its name, when the courier carrying harvest permission from the Fulda Abbot was delayed and botrytised grapes were vinified separately; the green-foiled Spaetlese is the colour-coded successor to that 1775 late harvest.
