In the glass
Aroma: stone fruit, citrus blossom, almond, chalk
Palate: textured stone fruit, mineral, light cream from lees, long acidity
Le Creete (meaning 'the clay/chalk') is named for the specific Cretaceous clay-limestone soils of the parcel. An intermediate tier between the standard Lugana and the full Riserva Molceo; extended stainless steel lees contact adds texture without the oak of the Riserva.
What it pairs with
-
Smoked trout with cream cheese
The wine's stone-fruit and chalk mineral stand up to the smoky richness of trout. -
Fried whitebait (bianchetti fritti)
High acidity and light cream texture cut through the tiny fried fish perfectly.
History
Le Creete was introduced to provide a mid-range option between the entry Lugana and the Molceo Riserva. The parcel's heavy Cretaceous clay soil gives the wine its name and its particular mineral precision; lees contact in stainless steel adds texture without the complexity demanded of the Riserva format.
- 2010 — Ottella introduces Le Creete as a clay-parcel single-terroir Lugana DOC between standard and Riserva tiers.
