In the glass
Aroma: fresh apricot, orange blossom, honey, volcanic mineral
Palate: candied apricot, orange peel, honey, saline volcanic
Caravaglio's organic Malvasia delle Lipari Passito captures the pure floral-honeyed character of the grape from the Malfa area on Salina's northern slope, with a distinctive volcanic mineral dimension and slightly more freshness than the Hauner style.
What it pairs with
-
Cannoli with fresh ricotta
The wine's honeyed-floral sweetness bridges the creamy ricotta and crispy pastry. -
Almond cream desserts
Orange blossom and honey notes are a natural match for almond-based desserts. -
Creamy blue cheese (Gorgonzola or Dolcelatte)
The classic sweet-and-savory contrast of sweet passito with pungent blue cheese.
History
The second-generation Caravaglio family on Salina produces organic Malvasia delle Lipari from vines farmed sustainably on the northern slope of the island at Malfa. Their passito offers a slightly fresher, more immediately approachable style than Hauner's while maintaining the distinctive floral-honeyed character of the appellation.
