What it pairs with

  • Roast lamb with garlic and herbs
The wine's mineral concentration suits traditional Castilian herb-roasted lamb.
  • Braised wild boar
Earthy, gamey braises resonate with the wine's mineral and dark-fruit depth.
  • Aged Manchego with olive oil and olives
The wine's mineral finish finds a natural partner in the salt of aged cheese and olives.

History

Protos Finca El Grajo Viejo was introduced in 2009 as the estate's single-vineyard flagship, drawing on the oldest Tinto Fino vines from the El Grajo Viejo parcel. It represents a departure from the cooperative's classic American-oak style toward a more terroir-focused expression.

  1. 1927 — Bodegas Protos founded at Peñafiel
  2. 2009 — Finca El Grajo Viejo single-vineyard cuvee first produced
