Aroma: blackcurrant, ripe plum, light cedar, fresh herbs

Palate: supple berry fruit, accessible tannins, clean Médoc structure, fresh finish

The Merlot-dominant second wine of Sociando-Mallet, offering earlier approachability with a more typically Médoc fruit profile than the austere and structured grand vin.

What it pairs with

  • Steak and French fries
The wine's approachable dark fruit and medium grip are a classic match for a simple steak dinner.
  • Duck breast with cherry reduction
Merlot richness and red fruit complement duck's natural affinity for berry flavors.
  • Grilled lamb chops
The wine's supple tannins and cassis notes suit the mineral sweetness of grilled lamb.

History

La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet is the second wine of Château Sociando-Mallet, introduced around 1985 (formerly known as Lartigue-de Brochon). With a higher Merlot content than the grand vin, it is more accessible in youth and a fraction of the price.

  1. 1985 — Second wine introduced under the Lartigue-de Brochon label
  2. 1995 — Renamed La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet
