Aroma: cherry, plum, cedar, dried herbs

Palate: ripe red fruit, smooth tannins, cedar, balanced acidity

Terroir-focused Crianza from the small Hoyales de Roa estate on the Roa de Duero plateau, with cherry, plum and cedar from 12 months in French oak in a restrained, mineral style typical of the Burgos chalk-limestone.

What it pairs with

  • Roast chicken with herbs and garlic
Medium body and red fruit match the mild, herb-fragrant roast bird.
  • Grilled lamb cutlets
Classic Ribera pairing -- the wine's cherry and cedar complement the mild lamb.
  • Cured jamon iberico with tomato bread
Fresh red fruit and balanced acidity complement the saline fat of iberico ham.

History

Bodegas Ribera del Pelayo occupies a small estate in Hoyales de Roa on the limestone plateau of the Roa de Duero sub-zone in Burgos province. The Crianza reflects the estate's focus on terroir expression from old Tinto Fino vines in this less commercially prominent corner of the appellation.
