In the glass
Aroma: dark cherry, blackberry, tobacco, cedar
Palate: concentrated dark fruit, cedar spice, firm tannins, mineral
The Reserva from Bodegas Ribera del Pelayo reveals the depth of the Hoyales de Roa old-vine terroir: dark cherry, blackberry and tobacco from 18 months in French oak with firm, age-worthy tannins and chalk-limestone mineral thread.
What it pairs with
-
Slow-roasted Castilian lamb
Concentrated dark fruit and firm structure are natural companions for slow lechazo. -
Grilled Iberico presa with herbs
Firm tannins and dark fruit suit the marbled Iberico presa with aromatic seasoning. -
Aged Manchego with black olives
The wine's mineral thread and tobacco notes pair with saline aged cheese and olives.
History
The Ribera del Pelayo Reserva is produced from the estate's oldest vines at Hoyales de Roa and benefits from 18 months in French oak. The Roa de Duero plateau's chalk-limestone subsoil provides the mineral backbone that distinguishes these wines from warmer-sector Ribera.
