Onix Classic from the Vinicola del Priorat cooperative is an equal-parts Carinena and Garnacha blend from 60-plus-year-old vines, hand-harvested from llicorella slate soils.
Tip: At under EUR 15 in Spain and around EUR 16 in northern Europe, Onix Classic is the most accessible Priorat from old vines on licorella. A genuine co-op wine from within the DOQ rather than the surrounding Montsant.
Embruix (meaning 'bewitching' in Catalan) is the entry wine from Vall Llach, blending multiple varieties from younger estate vines in Porrera.
Tip: Embruix provides an entry point to Vall Llach's Porrera terroir at a fraction of the price of their village and single-parcel bottlings.
Cims de Porrera was created by Josep Lluis Perez to rescue century-old Carinena and Garnacha vines from abandonment in the village of Porrera.
Tip: Cims de Porrera Solanes offers old-vine Carinena from Porrera at a price well below the estate's Vi de Vila bottlings. An under-recognised option from a historically important estate.
Mas Mallola is Marco Abella's entry-level Priorat from biodynamically farmed terraced vineyards in Porrera. The Marco family has roots in Porrera dating to 1497 according to Catalan census records, returned to their estate in 1898, and built their modern gravity-fed winery in 2001. Four separate terraced plots at altitudes from 200 to 700 metres produce concentrated but fresh Garnacha-Carinena blends.
Tip: The Marco Abella estate is one of the few in Priorat with documented roots before the 15th century. Mas Mallola is the affordable entry to this historic licorella property.
Mas d'en Compte is a Sangenis family property in Porrera farming 60-year-old Carinena and 15-year-old Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon on deep, rocky schist soils across costers and terraces.
Tip: Mas d'en Compte's wines are anchored in Porrera's Carinena heritage. The entry bottle is the most accessible way to experience this village's distinctive mineral structure.
Ceps Nous ('new vines' in Catalan) is Pasanau's entry-level Priorat, sourced from younger estate vines at higher-altitude plantings around la Morera de Montsant.
Tip: Pasanau's higher-altitude la Morera de Montsant plots are among the coolest in the DOQ. Ceps Nous offers a lighter style than lower-valley Priorat at a comparable price.
