More biodynamic & natural in Alto Adige

Bio-Weingut Lieselehof ★ 4.6

ORGANIC CERTIFIEDCaldaro / Kaltern lakeside

Werner Morandell's Lieselehof has farmed organically since 1993, an Alto Adige organic-viticulture pioneer. Around 6 hectares from 250 m on Lake Caldaro to 1,250 m in the Dolomites. Fungus-resistant variety specialist (Solaris, Bronner, Souvignier Gris); the Solaris-based Vino del Passo is a singular Italian dessert wine.

Tip: Visit includes the on-site South Tyrolean Vine Museum trail. The Vino del Passo Solaris is the cellar's standout pour.

Weingut Pranzegg (Martin Gojer) ★ 4.7

Biodynamic PracticingORGANIC CERTIFIEDKampenn / Monte Colle, Bolzano

Martin Gojer's Pranzegg has farmed biodynamically since 2009, with organic certification and a natural wine cellar approach: spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtration, minimal sulfur (only at bottling), long lees-ageing of 2-3 years before release. 3.5 hectares west of Bolzano on porphyry-and-basalt at 400 m. The Sankt Magdalener, Tonsur and Caroline cuvees are South Tyrolean natural wine references.

Tip: Visits by appointment only - the cellar is small. Bottle access through Tannico, Newcomer Wines, Wine Bohemians.

Tenuta Manincor respekt-BIODYN biodynamic vegan-compatible range ★ 4.5

Biodynamic PracticingORGANIC CERTIFIEDCaldaro lakeside

Tenuta Manincor's respekt-BIODYN biodynamic production operates under the Demeter standard which goes beyond EU organic by prohibiting gelatine and isinglass animal-derived fining agents. The full Manincor range (Reserve della Contessa, Mason Pinot Nero, Cassiano blend) is therefore vegan-compatible at the cellar standard level, although individual cuvees are not separately marked as vegan-certified.

Tip: Ask the cellar team to confirm vegan status per cuvee, since cellar practice (not just Demeter standard) determines the final fining choice. The Reserve della Contessa Pinot Bianco is the headline pour and is vegan-compatible.

Pranzegg natural-wine low-sulfite line ★ 4.6

Biodynamic PracticingORGANIC CERTIFIEDKampenn / Monte Colle, Bolzano

Martin Gojer's Pranzegg natural-wine cellar adds minimal sulphur only at bottling (no protection during fermentation or maturation), with long lees-ageing of 2-3 years giving natural microbial stability. The cellar approach produces South Tyrol's low-sulfite reference wines, with total SO2 typically well below organic-wine norms.

Tip: The Tonsur (white blend) and the Sankt Magdalener red are the cellar's low-sulfite expressions. Drink within 3-5 years of release for the freshest expression.

Tenutae Lageder (Alois Lageder) ★ 4.8

Demeter CertifiedORGANIC CERTIFIEDMagre an der Weinstrasse

The Lageder family has farmed biodynamically since the 1990s and achieved full Demeter certification on 55 hectares of estate vineyards in Magre in 2024. The Tenutae Lageder range (Lowengang Chardonnay, Krafuss Pinot Noir, Comets blends) is fully Demeter-certified; the negociant Riff range is organic-certified.

Tip: The Casa del Vino tasting precinct in Magre includes Paradeis (the estate restaurant) and the candle-lit cellar tasting room. The Tenutae Lageder Comets range is the introduction to the Demeter tier.

Tenuta Manincor ★ 4.9

Biodynamic PracticingORGANIC CERTIFIEDCaldaro lakeside

Tenuta Manincor at Caldaro is run by Count Michael Goess-Enzenberg, who took over in 1991 and converted the estate to certified-organic in stages. The estate achieved full respekt-BIODYN biodynamic certification on all 50 hectares in 2009 and Goess-Enzenberg founded respekt-BIODYN. The Reserve della Contessa Pinot Bianco, Mason Pinot Nero and Cassiano red blend are the estate signatures.

Tip: Count Michael Goess-Enzenberg founded respekt-BIODYN in 2007. The Manincor cellar is built 12 m underground beneath the historic Caldaro villa. Visits by appointment.
