Mouchão's namesake red has been made at the Casa Branca estate since 1901, fermented from Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira off the 19 to 27 year old Carrapetos and Dourada vineyard blocks and matured for years in large wooden tonéis before release.

Drink within 15-40 from vintage. Younger bottles benefit from 30-60 minutes of decanting; older ones should be poured carefully off any sediment.
Ensopado de borrego (Alentejo lamb stew) and Aged Serra da Estrela cheese are the strongest matches. The wine's four years of cask ageing round its tannins to match slow-cooked lamb.
Mouchão is a blend of Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira.
