Peñafiel's annual town festival held beneath the hilltop castle - itself home to the Museo Provincial del Vino. Wine is inseparable from the celebrations: the castle's museum hosts special evening tastings and Bodegas Protos, whose cellars extend beneath the castle walls, often opens for extended visits during the fair. The event coincides with the weeks before harvest, when the grapes hanging on the terraced vineyards below the castle are approaching full ripeness.

A formal awards gala follows in early June. In 2024, 89 wineries submitted 248 samples. Entry is ticketed for tasting; the awards ceremony is ticketed separately.
