Founded in 1870 in Vilafranca del Penedes by Jaime Torres Vendrell. The Pacs del Penedes campus is the visitor headquarters. Mas La Plana, the 29-hectare Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard at Finca El Maset planted in the early 1970s, produced the 1970 vintage that famously beat Chateau Latour 1970 at the 1979 Gault-Millau Wine Olympiad. Listed in the 2022 World's Best Vineyards ranking. The family operates roughly 2,300 hectares across Penedes, Conca de Barbera, Priorat, Costers del Segre and beyond.

Vineyards documented since 1790 at Masia Can Tutusaus. Modern winery developed by the Cusine family from the late 20th century. CCPAE-certified organic since 2002; Demeter-certified biodynamic since 2013 across all 200 hectares. Vineyards spread across five sites including the highest-altitude Foix Natural Park terraces (up to 750 metres). All wines are vegan; current winemaker Marta Casas was named Tim Atkin Best Winemaker of the Year 2024.

Tasting: Estate visit at Masia Can Tutusaus with vineyard walk through the Foix Natural Park terraces, biodynamic preparations demonstration and tasting of Indigena, Honeymoon Xarel-lo and Calcari single-vineyard wines.

The Cusine-Carol family farms the Pacs del Penedes estate organically and uses biodynamic methods including a horse-and-livestock farmyard, lunar calendar work and on-site preparation of biodynamic compost. The estate is certified organic by CCPAE. Biodynamic practice is documented on the producer website but Demeter or Biodyvin certification has not been confirmed for the Pares Balta home estate as of this research.

Tip: The Pares Balta visitor walk includes the farmyard livestock that are part of the biodynamic system; ask the host to show the compost preparation area.
