Lake Iseo (Lago d'Iseo) sits 15 km north of the Franciacorta core, with the town of Iseo as the lakeside gateway. Monte Isola, the lake island, is the largest lake island in southern Europe and is reachable by 10-minute passenger ferry from Iseo or Sulzano. The car-free island has fishing-village taverns serving Lake Iseo sardine (sardina essiccata) and tinca al forno (baked tench) with Franciacorta from the surrounding cellars.
