Cantine Agriverde states on its own site that it converted its 65 hectares at Caldari di Ortona to organic farming in 1988 and is certified by ICEA.

Tip: 1988 is early for an Italian estate of this size, and it put organic viticulture into the coastal Chieti hills a decade before the rest of the region followed.

Tip: The 2018 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo was named Rosato dell'Anno in the Gambero Rosso 2020 guide, which is the bottling to ask for first.

Cantina Tollo ★ 4.1

ORGANIC CERTIFIEDTollo

The Tollo cooperative bottles an organic Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Pecorino at cooperative prices, drawing on 2,700 hectares of member vineyard across the Chieti hills.

Tip: Organic Montepulciano and Trebbiano are both 7.40 euros on the cooperative's own shop, the cheapest certified organic bottles in the region.

An Atri farm in the calanchi badlands about eight kilometres from the sea, farming organically and fermenting Trebbiano and Pecorino in terracotta amphorae.
