Montepulciano, Trebbiano Abruzzese, Pecorino, PasserinaColline Teramane
A Tortoreto estate a few kilometres from the Adriatic working with low intervention, including amphora aged Montepulciano. Winemag grouped it with De Fermo writing about natural wine in Abruzzo.
Tip: The cellar door publishes hours including Saturday mornings, which is rare on this coast. Bottles run from 13 to 36.50 euros at the door.
Montepulciano, Trebbiano Abruzzese, PecorinoColline Teramane
The Torano Nuovo house has bottled since 1964 without filtering, holding wine in the cellar and decanting by hand before release, a window it has stretched from ten years to twenty.
Tip: The fruit comes from vines over fifty years old. There are rooms in the founder's house on the estate, and visits are arranged by email.
ORGANIC CERTIFIEDCasauria
A Nocciano estate certified by AIAB, which sets tighter sulphite limits than the plain organic rule, and bottling five wines with no added sulphites at all.
Tip: Those five are held under 10 mg per litre, the threshold at which sulphites count as legally absent. Franco D'Eusanio founded the brand in 1991.
Montepulciano, Trebbiano Abruzzese, Pecorino, MerlotBiodynamic PracticingORGANIC CERTIFIEDCasauria
A Pietranico estate of about 30 hectares that describes its own farming as organic and biodynamic, in the hills of the Casauria corridor below the Majella.
Tip: The estate does not name a biodynamic certifier, so treat it as practising rather than certified. The art and wellness programme runs alongside the cellar.
65 haICEAOrtona and the Trabocchi coast
Cantine Agriverde states on its own site that it converted its 65 hectares at Caldari di Ortona to organic farming in 1988 and is certified by ICEA.
Tip: 1988 is early for an Italian estate of this size, and it put organic viticulture into the coastal Chieti hills a decade before the rest of the region followed.
Montepulciano, Trebbiano Abruzzese, Pecorino, PasserinaORGANIC CERTIFIEDColline Teramane
A Torano Nuovo estate inside the Colline Teramane zone whose own site states that the whole production is certified organic, across Montepulciano, Cerasuolo, Trebbiano and the Controguerra whites.
Tip: The Poggio Varano line is where the organic farming shows most: a macerated Trebbiano and an amphora Montepulciano, both twenty euros at the door.
