Founded in 996 as Hungary's first Benedictine monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, Pannonhalma repurchased its confiscated vineyards in 2000 and brought in its first post-communist harvest in 2003, echoing the Wachau's own monastic-wine story at Gottweig and Melk.
